What can I save to Dissect?

Links from around forty-five sites, including YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X, Reddit, LinkedIn, Spotify, Substack and GitHub. Plus anything you upload: PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, slide decks, images, screenshots, audio and video files. Paste a link and Dissect goes and fetches it. Drop a file in and it reads it. Anything it doesn't recognise still gets saved and stored, it just won't be read as deeply.

Dissect transcribes video and audio, pulls the text out of images and PDFs, writes its own tags, and answers questions across everything in the library. A normal bookmark remembers where something was. This remembers what was in it.

No. Dissect transcribes audio, pulls the text out of images and PDFs, and writes its own tags as things arrive. Smart Collections group your saves by topic on their own. If you'd rather file things yourself, you can switch the automatic grouping off in settings, but most people never open the tag list at all.

What if I can't remember the exact words?

Then describe it the way you actually remember it. Search runs on meaning rather than matching text, so 'person typing on a computer' will find the post even if nobody ever wrote those exact words. Spelling mistakes are fine, and you can search in a different language from the one the thing was saved in.

Yes, and this is how most people use it. Link your WhatsApp number and forward things to Dissect the same way you'd forward them to a friend. They arrive already read and tagged. There's also a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox, and the share sheet on your phone works from any app.

Can I ask my library questions?

Yes. Ask Dissect answers out of your own saves and links back to the ones it used, so you can always see where an answer came from. It reads your library and nothing else, so it won't pad an answer out with things off the open web.

Can AI watch my saved videos and summarise them?

Yes. Saved YouTube, TikTok and Instagram links are transcribed in full, and the text on screen is read out of the video's keyframes, which is where short-form video usually puts the actual list. You get a summary and the main points without opening the video again.

Can I bring my old bookmarks across?

Yes. Drop in a browser bookmarks export, a Pocket HTML or CSV export, or a plain list of links, and the bulk importer pulls the URLs out and works through them in the background. Each one is read as it arrives, so what lands is a searchable library rather than the same list in a new place.

iPhone, Android, the web, and a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox. You can also forward things to it on WhatsApp. Save on one device and it is there on the others.

Is there a free plan?

There is, and it doesn't ask for a card. The free plan caps how many things you can save each month and how much of the heavier AI work you get. Paid plans raise those limits and unlock whole-library export. The current numbers are on the pricing page, since they change as the product does.

Is Dissect a good alternative to mymind?

It covers the same habit, saving anything without filing it, and adds three things mymind does not: questions answered out of your own library with citations, collections you can share by link, and a lower price at $4 a month against $12.99. mymind is deliberately more passive.

Can I get my data back out?

Any single save exports as Markdown on any plan, free included. Exporting the whole library in one go is a paid feature: it streams every save with its notes, tags and summary as one JSON record per line. Your original uploaded files stay downloadable either way.

Do you train AI on what I save?

No. Your saves, files, transcripts and notes belong to you. We don't sell them and we don't feed them into training sets for public models. Nothing in your library is visible to anyone else unless you deliberately share it.

Can I share something with someone else?

Any save can become a link you send, and a whole collection can be shared as its own page. Everything starts private. Nothing becomes visible to anyone until you choose to share that particular thing.
