1. How it works

Connect on Gmail's own screen

You sign in with Gmail, not with Dissect, and allow it to read. Dissect never sees your password.

2. ## Everything, or choose labels or emails

Import your mail from the last year, without promotions, social, spam and trash. Or pick Starred, Important, your own labels, or single emails found by search. New mail under a picked label comes in by itself.

3. ## Search in Dissect, open where it lives

Imported mail is searched by its words and its facts, the rest through Gmail's own search, all under "In your apps" next to your saves. Tap one and it opens in Gmail.

What it reads

What Dissect reads in Gmail

Everything means the last year of your mail, up to 2,000 conversations, newest first. Dissect keeps the text and a link, never a copy of your mailbox, and checks for new mail about every hour.

  • ### Conversations, understood

Each imported conversation gets its kind (receipt, booking, ticket, bill, delivery and more) and one plain line saying what it is.

  • ### The facts you look up later

Up to five per conversation: amount, order, booking or PNR number, flight or train, date and time, due date, tracking.

  • ### The rest of your mail

Mail you didn't import is still found through Gmail's own search, by subject and sender, marked name only, with an Import button.

What it never does

Read only, and yours to switch off

  • ### Never writes

Dissect never sends, replies, labels, archives or deletes mail.

  • ### Not in your Library

Your emails stay in Gmail. They don't use your saves or your storage.

  • ### Forgets on disconnect

Disconnect from Connected apps and Dissect forgets everything it read.

  • ### Its own page in Dissect

Browse everything from Gmail in one place, see what's read in full and what's name only, and import more.

Common questions

Does Dissect send or change anything in my Gmail?

No. Dissect only reads. It never sends, replies, labels, archives or deletes mail, and you can disconnect at any time.

Which mail does Dissect read?

With Everything, your mail from the last year without promotions, social, spam and trash, up to 2,000 conversations. Or only what you pick: Starred, Important, your own labels, or single emails.

What does understood mean?

Each imported conversation gets its kind, like receipt, booking or bill, one plain line saying what it is, and up to five facts such as the amount, booking or PNR number, flight, date or due date. Search finds mail by those too.

Does my mail go into my Library?

No. It stays in Gmail. Dissect keeps the text and a link so search can find it, it shows up under "In your apps", and it doesn't use your saves or storage.

Can I find mail I didn't import?

Yes. Dissect asks Gmail's own search when you search, so other mail turns up by subject and sender, marked name only. Import one and it's understood too.

What happens with new mail?

New mail comes in by itself, with Everything or under a picked label. Dissect checks about every hour, or when you press Check for changes.
